The Victorian Energy Upgrade program (VEU)

Victorian Energy Upgrades is a Victorian government energy efficiency program that allows every Victorian household and business to receive rebates or discounts on energy-saving products.

Every upgrade allows Accredited Providers to generate Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates. Each certificate represents one tonne of greenhouse gas that has been prevented from entering our atmosphere. Accredited providers then sell these certificates to energy retailers.

The Victorian Government sets annual greenhouse gas reduction targets that require energy retailers to buy a certain number of certificates. In 2021, energy retailers will help reduce Victoria’s greenhouse gas emissions by 6.5 million tonnes through energy efficiency.

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program is a Victorian Government program that provides households and businesses with discounted energy efficient products and services. Victorian households and businesses can access program activities and discounts through accredited providers who operate across the state.

Accredited providers create Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates, which are sold to energy retailers. The VEU program currently provides a range of low and no-cost energy-saving options such as low-flow showerheads, IHD’s and lighting. It also provides subsidies for replacing major appliances such as hot water systems and heating.

The installation

The installation process can take an average of 10-20 Minutes. Time of installation is based on several things, if the customer has all the required information on hand Eg: customer bill, email address and password, and access to the smart meter, these things can all inpact the install time.

  1. Locate the impulse light on the front of the electricity meter which flashes when power is being used.
  2. Record the number on the meter which explains how many times your meter flashes for each kWh of energy your home uses. This number is usually located on the front of your electricity meter.
  3. Clean the meter using the alcohol wipe. Allow the area to dry. Select the most appropriate mounting bracket so the sensor will be directly over the red light. In most cases, this will be the rectangular bracket.
  4. Remove the backing tape cover and place the mount over the flashing red light. Press for 30secs to allow the tape to stick. Making sure the impulse light is showing directly in the hole of the bracket.
  5. Attach the sensor to the mounting bracket and turn the Electricity Advisor on by pressing the power button (back of the transmitter) & hold > 1sec (until the front logo flashes 3 times).
  6. Use the magnetic feet to place the Electricity Advisor on the outside of the meter box.
